ANDEAN COCK-OF-THE-ROCK

Native to tropical forests of the Andes mountains, from Venezuela to Bolivia, the Andean cock-of-the-rock plucks fruit from trees, and occasionally eats large insects, small reptiles, or frogs. Andean cock-of-the-rock males are conspicuously brighter than females, with intense orange coloration, gray-and-black wing feathers, and a black tail. Known for their enthusiastic mating displays, males show off that brilliant plumage with hopping, high-energy “dance moves," competing with other males to win over a female.

You'll find the Andean cock-of-the-rock in the Safari Park's Hidden Jungle—and this is one eye-catching bird that is impossible to ignore.
